Safeguarding

Safeguarding Information for Parents

Surrey Street Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.  We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at our school.

All safeguarding concerns are passed to members of staff who are specifically trained as ‘Designated Safeguarding Lead’ (DSL) within school.

SG 07.01.21

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Protecting children from radicalisation

From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as The Prevent Duty.

Our designated Prevent Single Point of Contact is Mrs. L Adams (Headteacher)

Safeguarding Policy and Documents

The safeguarding policy is updated at least annually to reflect any statutory changes or emerging needs. It has to be read and understood by all staff and governors. In addition, all staff and governors are given safeguarding training at least annually.

The safeguarding leaflet below is given to all new visitors to the school and is a helpful summary reference document.

As part of our safeguarding procedures, we are also an Operation Encompass school. Operation Encompass is a police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which ensures ALL incidents of domestic abuse relating to our pupils are shared with the school, thereby enabling appropriate support to be put in place. For more information on Operation Encompass, please see the documents below.
